Nurses played a very important role in the war. As soldiers were getting injured on the battlefield, they would pick them up and care for them by doing whatever they could to keep them alive and fighting. Experienced nurses worked at hospitals along the frontlines to aid those who have more serious injuries. The nurses lifestyle wasn't very simple either; they would work from sunrise to sunset and would barely get any sleep, and some would become unnerved because they could hear the sounds of the battlefield from their location. A well known nurse is Edith Cavell. She was a British nurse who served in Belgium and was later forced to join the Red Cross. In 1915 she was arrested for caring for 200 soldiers who fled the war.
